Huntley Wood is nearly 170 acres of former quarry and ancient woodland near Cheadle in the Staffordshire Moorlands which was purchased in early 2010 by Argoncroft Ltd. Argoncroft is a family company, run by husband-and-wife team Jonathan Ely and Emma King, and was set up specifically for the purchase and development of Huntley Wood.

The above artist's impression, by local artist Charles Barker, shows the largest collection of buildings we will be erecting at Huntley Wood.

In April 2011 we received planning permission to transform Huntley Wood into an outdoor recreational venue, providing facilities for local and national groups to camp or bunk on the site in order to enjoy the surroundings and pursue various outdoor activities. We have had interest from a wide variety of groups who are looking for outdoor venues for activities such as archery, mountain biking, education, ecology, living history, re-enactment and role-playing. For more details of what we are proposing, check out our vision, or read the answers to frequently asked questions.
We are working closely with forestry and ecology experts to ensure that our plans for the business use of the site will not impact negatively on the existing wildlife at Huntley Wood, and hope to enhance the ecological value of the site by careful and appropriate management of its various habitats - more details can be found on our ecology page.
We have also designed the buildings and features necessary for the recreational use of the site, such as toilet facilities and indoor activity space, to be sympathetic and to minimise their impact both visually and ecologically on the surroundings. All the necessary buildings will be of traditional log cabin or barn style, clad in wood, and thus will blend into their surroundings as much as possible. We will also aim to minimise the impact of necessary features such as car parking space in order to retain the natural unspoiled beauty of Huntley Wood. An artist's impression of the largest collection of buildings at Huntley Wood can be seen above.
Research suggests that this use of Huntley Wood will not only benefit local residents in terms of having a wonderful facility and variety of events on their doorstep, but will also have a significant positive impact on the local economy in terms of new business being drawn to the area.
Although we now have planning permission it will take some time to fulfill all the various planning conditions and to do the work necessary to bring the site into use - we hope to be open for business in Spring 2012, but watch this website for further updates!
